The Pasillo is considered “The Rhythm of Ecuador”

    • @DavidChiriboga
      @DavidChiriboga 13 днів тому

      Yes, she’s an amazing classical concert pianist, who now devotes her life to this new mission of helping people uncover their true purpose. I got the chance to hear her speak in Houston and was blown away with her presentation. Mostly because she comes from the perspective of a professional musician, and going from the traditional world of classically trained to blurring all the lines and deviating paths..

    In flamenco the best posture is the one that's most comfortable to you. You may even change posture mid-play. The traditional flamenco posture is the belly of the guitar resting on the right thigh, with the guitar at a ~45 degree angle. That's how Paco de Lucia started out. Later he adopted the posture shown in this video (because it allows for more freedom of the left hand), and probably most flamenco guitarists use that posture. But you can't discount the 'slouched over the guitar' posture of Diego del Morao, son of the famous Moraito Chico.

    • @DavidChiriboga
      @DavidChiriboga 21 день тому

      For sure, best posture is the one that works best for your body and performance. I never could get use to that old school Flamenco posture, seems very difficult to play advanced pieces in that position. And yea, that hunched over position may work for Diego, but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it to anyone as a go-to position….

    David, thank you for this lesson very practical and helpful. I’ve seen some flaminco guitar players use three fingers when playing Picado, you use two, is one way better than the other? And why?

    • @DavidChiriboga
      @DavidChiriboga Місяць тому

      Hey James! Thanks 👌🏼So I would say about 98% of Flamenco guitarists do picado with the standard two finger picado. The three finger picado is more of a specialty thing I’ve seen a few players do. Some players use it only for exercises to help with finger independence and not depend on the two standard fingers (I & M). Some will also practice exercises with the I & A or M & A. I think Grisha Goryachev likes doing the three finger version on occasion, but not as his main one… So, if you’re curious about pursuing it, I’d say you can introduce it as an exercise first and experiment with it very slowly to start. But the main thing is to master the two finger version first. Especially when crossing from string to string, the three finger will be much more challenging than the two finger version.
